Infant Informant
September 2009
Welcome to the infant/young
toddler room. It has been a busy and
exciting week getting to know you all, and working together to make the
transition into our room comfortable, warm, and pleasant for everyone. We will continue to communicate daily and
look to you as the experts as we learn about those little things that make your
child feel happy and loved.
We encourage everyone to
please express your ideas, questions or concerns. We can offer a shoulder to cry on, a hug of
support, or a phone call ten times a day if that is what is needed. We can also offer resources such as books and
articles if there are certain areas of development you are wondering about and
we have a small collection you are welcome to check out in the hall above the
cubbies. If you see something you would
like to take home and read please let us know and we will show you where you
can sign it out for a day, week or month.
We also welcome any tips, books, recipes or articles you come across and
would love to read or hear about them.
We spend this first part of
the year focusing on relationships, it seems to be a natural starting place in
our intended curriculum as we as teachers get to know you as families and the
children get to know us and their peers.
It can often be a big adjustment from life at home, where there may or
may not be a sibling, to the busy world of CSDC. We spend lots of time making sure there is a
healthy balance of one on one time, time to explore, quiet moments, and
opportunities to participate in group play.
We also recommend a family page.
This can be as simple as a picture of Mom and Dad or as fancy as a full
page of the extended family and beyond.
We’ve had families make a photo album (in one of those plastic, baby
friendly albums that can be chewed on), or print some pictures (on an 8 ½ X 11
page or smaller) out on their computer.
The important part is that you child has a picture they can see each day
of the people who are important in their life.
Please feel free to ask if you have any questions about doing a family
page.
It seems to be quickly moving
from summer to fall and a reminder to all to please
bring an extra outfit for warm weather and cool weather, and a sweatshirt or
light coat. We also need some sort of
slipper, shoe, booties or socks in case we go for a morning buggy ride on a
crisp fall day.
A reminder as well that in
the next few weeks you will receive your first journal entry from your child’s primary
caregiver. These will be sent
electronically via the email accounts you provided us on your
applications. Please let us know if you
have a preferred email you would like us to use as there will be no hard copy
made of the journals and we want to make sure you all get to enjoy reading them
and seeing the pictures.
We are so excited to have you
all as a part of our classroom and look forward to welcoming two more friends
in the coming weeks. Please see the
dates below for upcoming family events, school activities, and CSDC/UNH
closings. More information about the
school-wide apple picking fieldtrip and Harvest Festival will be coming in the
next few weeks.
