The Research Mentorship Team (RMT)

The Research Mentorship Team (RMT) at CSDC was formed in 2003 with the goal of bridging the gap between classroom practice and action research. Initially, 4-6 teachers representing various classroom teams met monthly outside of classroom hours in order to develop collaborative investigations. Dr. John Nimmo (Executive Director), Dr. Soyeon Park, and since 2005, Dr Dora Chen (Associate Director for Inquiry & Pedagogy) have facilitated the informal meeting by supporting teachers to form questions, learn about research methodology and develop a critical stance regarding research paradigms. The goals of the RMT include mentoring other staff in the process of research, developing documentation skills, and enhancing staff professional development.

During 2005-6 the RMT members came together as co-investigators in a study concerning young children’s understanding of adults in their community. Teachers worked with faculty to clarify questions, design methodology, and collect data through observations and video documentation. Currently the RMT meets once each semester in order to discuss and celebrate ongoing research projects in development.
